CELPIP General

The CELPIP-General (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is a Canadian-designed English language test used primarily for immigration, permanent residency (PR), and professional licensing in Canada. It evaluates your ability to understand and communicate in everyday English relevant to real-life scenarios, including workplace, community, and social settings.

CELPIP-General is fully accepted by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for economic immigration programs such as Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), Atlantic Immigration Program, and more. Because it is developed in Canada and reflects Canadian English and contexts, it is considered the most Canada-specific English language test available.

What is CELPIP-General?

CELPIP-General is a fully computer-delivered English proficiency test that measures four key language skills:

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking

The test is structured to simulate real-life tasks such as interpreting instructions, writing workplace emails, or speaking on the phone. All components are taken in a single test session on a computer — even the Speaking section, which is recorded.

There is also a CELPIP-General LS version (Listening and Speaking only), but that is used only for Canadian citizenship, not immigration.
